The Home of Bog Snorkeling in Wales, Powys

At the end of August in the small town of Llanwrtyd Wells in mid wales people come together to compete in the world bog snorkelling Championships. The World Bog Snorkeling Championships, 28th August 2011

Llanwrtyd wells is the home of the world bog snorkelling championships. Bog snorkelling is a traditions that started back in 1976 in the small town of Llanwrtyd wells after a conversation at the bar of a local pub. The event has grown since then and in 1985 the first World Bog Snorkeling Championships where held in Llanwrtyd Wells, Powys. The event sees competitors swim through 60 yards of peat bog in an effort to become the world bog snorkelling champion.

Bog Snorkeling Triathlon, Mid Wales

Following the high demand for bog snorkelling events in mid wales the organisers of the World Championships started a new event in 2005. The event involves a 6.5 mile run followed by 2 lengths of the 60 yard peat bog and concludes with a 19 mile mountain cycle ride. The event is open to individuals and relay teams. There are now Bog Snorkeling has also been adopted in Ireland, Northern Ireland and places as far afield as Australia. Llanwrtyd Wells is also home to the Man V’s Horse race and many other walking events. Both the world championships and the triathlon are open to anyone and the Lake Country House & Spa would love to accommodate anyone who would like to take part.
