The Lake Country House Hotel & Spa

Awards

AA

Perhaps the most prestigious award we have received has been given by the Automobile Association of Great Britain.

This respected Association has awarded The Lake a rating of 82% - in Wales' top five. The three stars classification concerns the accomodation and general status of the hotel.

The AA denotes a 3 star hotel as "....hotels are usually of a size to support higher staffing levels, and a significantly greater quality and range of facilities than at the lower star classifications. Reception and the other public rooms will be more spacious and the restaurant will normally also cater for non-residents. All bedrooms will have fully en suite bath and shower rooms and offer a good standard of comfort and equipment, such as a hair dryer, direct dial telephone, toiletries in the bathroom. Some room service can be expected, and some provision for business travellers."

AA

The two red rosettes denote that the AA regards the cuisine at The Lake to be of a very high standard.

Under the direction of Sean Cullingford, head chef, recent improvements have secured the AA 2 rosette recommendation.

The AA state that "Only cooking of the highest national standard receives two or more rosettes. Menus will be imaginative; dishes should be accurately cooked, demonstrate well developed technical skills and a high degree of flair in their composition. Ingredients will be first-class, usually from a range of specialist suppliers, including local produce only if its quality is excellent. Most items - breads, pastries, pasta, petits fours - will be made in the kitchens.

Dining Award

This award is given to establishments demonstrating that good food and dining atmosphere can be found at all styles of accommodation.

The award is assessed on the whole meal experience - not just the food. This award requires an overnight visit: dinner is taken into account, as is breakfast the next morning. Not only is breakfast one of the great institutions, but it is the meal that the guest experiences, and so forms a large part of the impression of their visit.

This award in made at five levels, with level five representing a superlative dining experience. The standards have been set to challenge the best establishment and the attainment of level one is a success in itself.

Johansens

Most Excellent Restaurant

The johansen inspector said . . . . . . ."This place is the epitome of a traditional hotel, superbly run by Pierre Mifsud, and this rubs off on his staff. One gets the impression that everyone thoroughly enjoys working here. It is like a Victorian steam engine - Just rolls on and on - Brilliant. The service in the restaurant is superb, old style, but relaxing,. The food attracts 3 AA Rosettes and is exceedingly good and totally digestible, it is beautifully cooked using local produce and superbly presented. The cheese board has to be the best in Wales, it is maintained to perfection and a variety of ports are offered. All the cheeses are Welsh."
